Cardiac output estimation using pulse wave analysis—physiology, algorithms, and technologies: a narrative review

چکیده

Pulse wave analysis (PWA) allows estimation of cardiac output (CO) based on continuous the arterial blood pressure (AP) waveform. We describe physiology AP waveform, basic principles PWA algorithms for CO estimation, and technologies available clinical practice. The waveform is a complex physiological signal that determined by interplay left ventricular stroke volume, systemic vascular resistance, compliance. Numerous are to estimate CO, including Windkessel models, long time interval or multi-beat analysis, pulse power recording analytical method. Invasive, minimally-invasive, noninvasive monitoring systems can be classified according method they use calibrate estimated values in externally calibrated systems, internally uncalibrated systems.

Pilot Study: Estimation of Stroke Volume and Cardiac Output from Pulse Wave Velocity

BACKGROUND Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is increasingly replacing thermodilution pulmonary artery catheters to assess hemodynamics in patients at high risk for cardiovascular morbidity. However, one of the drawbacks of TEE compared to pulmonary artery catheters is the inability to measure real time stroke volume (SV) and cardiac output (CO) continuously. The aim of the present proof o...

Tracking of cardiac output from arterial pulse wave.

In a previous issue of Clinical Science, Remmen et al. [1] addressed the question whether the Modelflow2 method can reliably assess cardiac output (CO) from an arterial pressure waveform without calibration. This question is not new, neither is the answer: it does not, as we have shown in a series of earlier studies [2–5]. If accurate absolute values are required, the methodology needs calibrat...

Estimation of cardiac output and peripheral resistance using square-wave-approximated aortic flow signal

This paper presents a model-based approach to estimation of cardiac output (CO) and total peripheral resistance (TPR). In the proposed approach, the response of cardiovascular system (CVS), described by the windkessel model, is tuned to the measurements of systolic, diastolic and mean arterial blood pressures (BP) so as to yield optimal individual- and time-specific system time constant that is...

Prenatal Care in Pregnancies Through Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs): A Narrative Review Article

Background: Understanding the physiological and psycho-social effects of pregnancy through Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) will enable health care providers to identify and treat any adverse outcomes, and provide support to women seeking fertility treatments. The aim of this paper was to review studies describing prenatal care in pregnancy through ARTs. Methods: A systematic search o...

Comparison of cardiac output measured by oesophageal Doppler ultrasonography or pulse pressure contour wave analysis.

BACKGROUND Maintaining adequate organ perfusion during high-risk surgery requires continuous monitoring of cardiac output to optimise haemodynamics. Oesophageal Doppler Cardiac Output monitoring (DCO) is commonly used in this context, but has some limitations. Recently, the cardiac output estimated by pulse pressure analysis- (PPCO) was developed. This study evaluated the agreement of cardiac o...
